Bees Got Your Tongue?

Help! There's too much to know about beeswax candles...

Or is there?

Sometimes the many uses and techniques for burning beeswax candles can feel confusing - but don't worry we've got streamlined information here to simplify your beeswax experience so that you can sit back, relax, and smell the honey!

All of our products come with instructions for how to properly burn beeswax. If you've lost your postcard or are new, here are our top tips to getting the most out of your candles.

Light your candles at the base of the wick.

Beeswax burns hot and the cotton wick acts like a fuse. We recommend using a lighter for your beeswax candles, the flame is stronger and more consistent than using a match. When you light your candle at the base of the wick, your candle will be off to a great start creating a rounded and even melt pool. Be sure you've created a small melt pool around the base of the wick before removing the lighter.

Trim your wick.

Keep your wick trimmed to 1/4". Not too long, or too short, a wick of this length ensures that your candle will melt evenly. This means your wax will not overflow from a flame that is too large and your wax pool will melt out to the edges of the candle.

Let your candle burn.

Let your candle burn for the recommended amount of time (each candle has a recommended first burn time in the description). A good rule of thumb is to let your candle burn evenly to the edges before putting it out or, approximately 1 hour per inch wide. If a candle is not burned for long enough to allow the wax to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the container, it will create a "memory ring".

Keep out of drafts.

Burn your candle out of drafts when possible. A flickering flame caused by a draft, creates an uneven melt pool. This is especially important for our sensitive, decorative candles as you want them to remain useable without tunneling or leaking.
