Don't let leftover wax go to waste!
If you've had to trim off excess beeswax (see our blog post on why this could have happened here) instead of throwing it away you can save it to be repurposed!
Here are just a few things beeswax can be used for:
- Polishing furniture - Clean, nourish, and protect your furniture with a natural, beeswax based furniture polish.
- Homemade lipbalm or lipstick - Create your own lipbalms with beeswax, coconut oil, and an essential oil of choice. Add natural pigments to make lip tints and lipsticks.
- Coating tools to prevent rust - Add a protective waxy layer where necessary to tools and wood enclosures to prevent water penetration and rust build up.
- Seasoning cast iron pans - Melt a bit of beeswax in with your oil when seasoning cast iron pans for a bit of extra sealant protection.
- Homemade shoe polish - Keep boots and working shoes water resistant, shined, and polished without harsh chemicals by using homemade beeswax based shoe polish.
- Homemade salve for helping minor cuts heal or soothing bug bites - Tap into the healing benefits of beeswax by making an all natural skin salve for minor abrasions on the surface of your skin.
- Hairstyling - Another beauty hack using beeswax balm to tame fly away hairs.
- Homemade body butter - Healing and nourishing, use beeswax in your skincare routine by combining with olive, almond, or jojoba oil and using as a body moisturizer on cleansed skin.
- Homemade Crayons - What better way to craft with kids and loves ones than making and using your own tools! Melt down your leftover beeswax scraps (you can use sheets for colored crayons or try adding your own pigments to a natural or ivory base!), pour the melted wax into a mold, and leave them to cool and solidify for for a day.
- Wax threads for sewing - A simple and helpful homemaker hack is to take a bit of beeswax and warm the small piece by rubbing it between your fingers. Take the warmed wax leftover on your fingers and apply it to the tip of your thread by pinching the thread and pulling it through.
Beeswax is an amazing resource with so many uses. These are just a few and we encourage you to search up some recipes and DIY instructions so that you can perfect your beeswax scrap projects!
Happy crafting!
