We're on a rescue mission to save your beeswax pillar candle!
Beeswax is a beautiful natural resource. From its production by bees to rendering by beekeepers to being poured into a mold and packaged by candlemakers, each step requires care and attention, and burning these natural candles is no different.
We've all been there! Maybe the candle didn't get to burn for long enough the first time it was lit, but now the wax pool is small, and you've got tons of unburned beeswax. Maybe the wick got cut too short or broke off after being lit, maybe the wax is spilling over the edge. Don't worry, there's a solution to these problems, and we're here to help!
Wax Pools
For the best burn: Allow your candle to stay lit long enough for the melted wax pool to reach all the way to the edges. Both the wick and the wax have a “memory”—if the wax doesn’t melt evenly the first time, the candle will continue burning in that smaller circle, making it harder to reach the edges later.
If this happens: Gently scrape away some of the extra wax around the edges with a small tool so the candle can burn evenly again.
Short Wick
For the best burn: Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4". If the wick breaks off and becomes too short at any point, the candle may extinguish too soon after being lit, as there is too much wax for the wick to handle.
If this happens: Gently scrape away some of the extra wax around the wick with a small tool so that the amount of wax does not overwhelm the wick. You can also heat the wax with a heat tool and pour out the excess wax.
Tunneling
For the best burn: Keeping the wick trimmed to 1/4" and straightening it out with a candle tool as it burns is crucial. If you've been burning your pillar candle for a long while and the wax begins to leak or run out of the candle, your candle has likely tunnelled. In other words, the flame has melted a hole through the side of the candle, and all of the melted wax is running down the side.
If this happens: Do not try to stop the wax from spilling out; it will be hot. Make sure the area is safe and cleared, let the wax run and cool completely before touching. Trim the wick to 1/4" and re-center it in the candle using a candle trimming tool and dipper.
Some things are just good candle care practices! It is important to burn your candle on a fire-safe plate or holder, keep the wick trimmed to 1/4", burn away from drafts, and don't move the candle around once it's been lit.
